Dehradun, 24 Jul: Uttarakhand has performed better than the national average in the execution of National Highway (NH) projects, with a significantly lower proportion of projects exceeding their original completion deadlines, according to information furnished by the Central Government in Parliament.
The information was provided in Rajya Sabha today in response to a question raised by BJP State President and Rajya Sabha MP Mahendra Bhatt regarding the status of ongoing National Highway construction, widening and upgradation projects in Uttarakhand.
In a detailed written reply, Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari informed the parliament that, excluding projects under consideration for completion or foreclosure, 1,191 National Highway projects are currently under construction across the country and are at various stages of execution. Of these, 629 projects have exceeded their originally stipulated completion timelines.
With regard to Uttarakhand, Gadkari stated that 74 National Highway projects are presently under construction in the state. Of these, only 31 projects have crossed their original completion deadlines. The figures indicate that the proportion of delayed projects in Uttarakhand is considerably lower than the national average, reflecting comparatively better adherence to project timelines despite the state’s difficult mountainous terrain and challenging geographical conditions.
The BJP has asserted that the pace of National Highway construction and execution in Uttarakhand is better than the national average in terms of completion within the prescribed timeframe, highlighting the state’s comparatively stronger performance in implementing highway infrastructure projects.
