Dehradun/New Delhi, 13 Aug: The central government has assured action on proposals submitted by Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami seeking approval for several important road projects in Uttarakhand as spurs of national highways. Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari informed Dhami through a letter today that the proposals forwarded by the state government have been sent to the authorities concerned for consideration and necessary examination.

The request, made by Dhami on 24 July 2026, included approval for a one‑kilometre motor road with a tunnel from Sikuda Bend to NTD (Almora) as a spur of National Highway 309B, linking the Seraghat–Barechhina motor road of 45 kilometres to the national highway network, connecting the Marchula–Bhikiyasain motor road of 72 kilometres to the national highway network, and declaring the Kalsi–Chakrata motor road of 44 kilometres as a spur of National Highways 707A and 507. Gadkari, in his communication, clarified that all these proposals have been referred to the relevant authorities for testing and review.

Dhami said that the state government’s objective is to provide better road connectivity to mountainous and border areas and to accelerate regional development, tourism, trade and the local economy by linking them to the national highway network. He expressed confidence that with the positive cooperation of the Centre, decisions on these proposals will be taken soon, thereby strengthening the state’s road infrastructure further. He also conveyed his gratitude to Gadkari for adopting a sensitive approach towards Uttarakhand’s developmental needs and for ensuring prompt action on the proposals.
