Dehradun, 11 Sep: Governor Lt General Gurmit Singh (Retd) participated on Friday in the International Conference on Advancement in Cyber Security and Digital Forensics (ICACSDF-2026) held at UPES, here.
The international conference, organised by the School of Computer Science, UPES, brought together researchers from India and abroad, cybersecurity experts, industry professionals, and students. The conference featured discussions on cybercrime, emerging cyber threats, and issues related to digital security.
On the occasion, the Governor said that digital technology is now connected with almost every aspect of our lives. Our dependence on digital systems is continuously increasing, from banking, education, healthcare, communication, and governance to industry, energy, transportation, and critical infrastructure. In such a scenario, Digital India is our strength, but a secure Digital India is our necessity.
Congratulating UPES and all the organisers on hosting the conference, the Governor said that cybersecurity is directly linked to the country’s technological progress, economic security, citizens’ trust, and national security. Cybersecurity capabilities must grow at the same pace as technology. He said that public trust in digital systems can be sustained only when people are confident about the security of their data, identity, hard-earned money, and the country’s critical systems.
Describing digital forensics as an important pillar of cybersecurity, the Governor said that as the nature of crime changes, investigative methods must also evolve. Important evidence is available in mobile phones, computers, servers, networks, and other digital media. The identification, preservation, and scientific analysis of such digital evidence have become extremely important for the justice system and law enforcement agencies.
The Governor said that universities and research institutions must come forward to develop new solutions in the field of cybersecurity. Through education, research, and innovation, the capacity to stay one step ahead of evolving cyber threats must be developed. He said that self-reliance in cybersecurity means developing our own technologies, experts, solutions, and security capabilities. For this, the government, universities, industry, security agencies, and society must work together.
He expressed confidence that ICACSDF-2026 would not remain limited to being merely a conference, but would become a platform for new ideas, research, collaboration, and innovation, giving a new direction to India’s digital security.
On the occasion, Chairman, UPES, Dr Ram Sharma; Vice Chancellor, UPES, Prof (Dr) Sunil Rai; Conference Chair, Dr Subhaban Chowdhury; and others were present.
