Dehradun, 26 Oct: Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami today participated in the Shobha Yatra organised on the occasion of Valmiki Jayanti at Dehradun Municipal Corporation and announced that the honorarium of environmental workers serving in various departments across the state would be raised soon. He shared that a meeting would be convened at the earliest to take the matter forward.

Paying tribute to Maharishi Valmiki on his birth anniversary, the CM said that through the epic Ramayana, Maharishi Valmiki introduced the world to the life and ideals of Lord Ram. He said the life of Maharishi Valmiki teaches that a person can become an inspiration for others through noble thoughts and deeds. According to him, Valmiki’s life conveys the message that a person’s true identity is shaped by knowledge, actions and contribution to society. He added that Maharishi Valmiki inspired the creation of a society where there is no place for discrimination.

Dhami said the Ramayana conveys the values of truth, righteousness, sacrifice and duty. He noted that the epic teaches not only the importance of following the path of dharma but also the values of love, equality, brotherhood and respect for human dignity. He said the Ramayana demonstrates that an individual’s identity is determined not by caste or social status but by thoughts, actions and dedication. He added that Sanatan culture has always promoted respect, harmony, goodwill and social cohesion.

The CM asserted that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the country is establishing new dimensions of development while preserving its cultural heritage. He said a new environment had emerged across the country that encourages people to reconnect with their roots, recognise their history and strengthen cultural consciousness. He noted that the grand Ram Temple in Ayodhya had been constructed under the Prime Minister’s leadership. He added that the inclusion of Maharishi Valmiki, Nishad Raj and Mata Shabari within the Ram Temple complex reflects the spirit of social harmony and India’s cultural traditions.

Dhami further said that the international airport in Ayodhya had been named after Maharishi Valmiki.

The Chief Minister said numerous initiatives were being undertaken for the upliftment of deprived, exploited and underprivileged sections of society. He said the Prime Minister’s clear vision is that the country can become developed and empowered only by ensuring equal opportunities and respect for all. He added that under the Prime Minister’s guidance, the state government is also working continuously for the welfare of every section of society.

Dhami reminded that scholarships are being provided to SC and ST students from Classes 1 to 12 in the state. In addition, 15 free hostels, five residential schools and three ITIs are being operated for these students. He added that arrangements have also been made for free coaching for competitive examinations so that young people can advance in the fields of education and employment.

The CM said that the government has revived the Atal Awas Yojana and is providing financial assistance of Rs 1.20 lakhs to homeless SC families for house construction. To promote social harmony, an incentive of Rs 50,000 is also being provided for inter-caste marriages involving a SC bride or groom. Financial assistance of Rs 50,000 is similarly being provided for the marriage of daughters belonging to Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe families. He said the government’s clear objective is to ensure that no section of society is left behind in the process of development.
