Gairsain, 28 Oct: Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami today launched a sharp attack on the Congress, accusing it of indulging in misinformation, appeasement politics and corruption, while asserting that his government was working to correct the legacy of past Congress governments and would continue its efforts to do so.
Speaking to journalists after the conclusion of the two day long Uttarakhand Assembly session in Gairsain, Dhami reminded that the session was the final Assembly session of the current government’s tenure. He noted that two Assembly sessions had been held in Gairsain this year and claimed that, over the past five years, the Assembly had functioned in Gairsain for the longest duration under the present government.
Targeting the opposition over its conduct, the CM alleged that the Congress has consistently displayed what he described as an anarchic approach. Referring to protests and demonstrations by opposition leaders, he said the party’s actions reflect the frustration and political desperation. He also took a swipe at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, alleging that his conduct and statements have repeatedly exposed the party’s mindset.
Dhami further questioned the stance of Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav on Uttarakhand-related issues and referred to the Rampur Tiraha incident, describing it as one of the darkest chapters in the history of the Uttarakhand movement. He alleged that Akhilesh Yadav has reopened old wounds associated with the statehood agitation. The CM also questioned the silence of Uttarakhand Congress leaders on remarks relating to National Security Adviser Ajit Doval and criticised recent political statements made by opposition leaders.
The CM also attacked the Congress on the issue of corruption, describing the party as the “mother of corruption”. He claimed that no major scam has taken place under his government’s tenure and alleged that Congress leaders are attempting to mislead people by raising baseless issues. Referring to allegations involving Cabinet Minister Rekha Arya, Dhami said there has been no controversy during the many years she lived with her husband and suggested that disputes surfaced only after she refused to accept his ‘wrongdoings’.
Highlighting the achievements of his government, Dhami said Uttarakhand has enacted a stringent land law and undertaken reforms in the administration of religious educational institutions. He stated that the existing Madrasa Board has been replaced with a new authority and claimed that more than 250 madrasas operating in violation of norms have been shut down. According to him, while previous Congress governments had restricted representation to a particular community, the present government had ensured participation of all the minority communities in the new system.
Dhami asserted that his government is correcting the mistakes and wrong policies of previous Congress administrations. “Our government is cleaning up Congress’ sins and this process will continue,” he said.
The CM also attacked Rahul Gandhi, describing him as anti-Sanatan, and accused the Congress of opposing initiatives that had been promised to voters. He said all major commitments made in the BJP’s Vision Document for the 2022 Assembly elections had been fulfilled. Referring to the implementation of the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) in Uttarakhand, Dhami said the opposition had initially dismissed it as an election promise and attempted to create fear among people. He maintained that the law has helped free Muslim women from several social evils and practices.
Accusing the Congress of pursuing politics of appeasement, Dhami said many legislative measures became necessary because of policies followed by previous governments. He alleged that the Congress had built its politics around false narratives and appeasement, while his government is committed to transparency, reforms and the welfare of all sections of society.
