Dehradun, 22 Sep: Power consumers in Uttarakhand have opposed various sundry charges which are now being charged from them by the Uttarakhand Power Corporation Ltd (UPCL). They have pointed out that now UPCL has begun to collect the cost of coal which it is purchasing from outside for power generation in the form of Fuel Charges by adding 0.36% more to the monthly bills of common consumers. The consumers point out that due to various sundry charges, the power tariff in the state for the common consumers has gone up to Rs 7.10 per unit, which is not affordable for the poor people of Uttarakhand.  Claiming that the tariff is very high for the common citizen, particularly in a state where there is no dearth of the potential to generate far more hydropower than is being generated currently.

Not only this, it has further been pointed out that the UPCL is also seeking additional security deposit which will vary from consumer to consumer as per electricity consumption every month. It has been pointed out that while the bills being received by the consumers are not showing any demand for additional security deposit, online notices are being sent to consumers for this on their mobiles and email addresses. This has created a state of confusion among the consumers.
