Dehradun, 21 Jan: UPES recently concluded its inaugural ‘India Immersion Program’ at its campuses in Bidholi and Kandoli. The program aims to offer students a unique and enriching experience by exposing them to diverse cultures, business practices, and social contexts. This immersive approach fosters a global mindset, cultural adaptability, and a deeper understanding of global issues and better equips students to become global leaders.

The university welcomed 13 students and 4 faculty members from the National Research University Higher School of Economics (HSE University), Russia. During the 15-day program, these Russian students attended various sessions, visited nearby schools, villages and NGOs. Tailored to offer HSE students an overview of India’s economic, political, and social landscape, these Winter School sessions provided insights into the country’s regulatory framework, policies, and consumer behaviour.

Offering insights into India’s vibrant civil society landscape and its impact on societal issues, the university also organised a workshop by Padma Bhushan awardee Dr Anil Prakash Joshi, environmentalist, green activist, and the founder of Himalayan Environmental Studies and Conservation Organisation (HESCO). The session offered an overview of India’s varied civil society, including NGOs, community organisations, and advocacy groups, and their pivotal role in tackling social, environmental, and humanitarian challenges. Students also had the opportunity to learn about India’s economic reforms in an engaging session with Dr Shubhashis Gangopadhyay, Dean, UPES School of Liberal Studies. The session covered the history, significance, and prospects of economic reforms.

The first edition of Winter School also featured sessions on topics such as ‘India Stack’, India’s digital infrastructure that aims to unlock the economic primitives of identity, data, and payments for the entire population. Additionally, another session focussed on ESG in India’s corporate landscape.

Furthermore, UPES also organised sports activities and yoga retreats in Rishikesh and Mussoorie to give students a space to rejuvenate, both, physically and mentally.
