Gunshot victim Tanya’s husband held after encounter

Dehradun, 21 Jan: Shubham Rajput, the husband of Tanya Chauhan, who is under treatment at the Doon Hospital, here, after doctors removed a bullet from her head, was arrested early Sunday following an encounter with the police in Kuthalgate area.

Sub-Inspector Mithun Kumar also received bullet injuries when a police party went to Mussoorie to arrest Rajput, who was hiding in a homestay, said Mussoorie SHO, Arvind Kumar. After firing at the police, Rajput escaped from the homestay and was intercepted in Kuthalgate area, where he tried to escape again early this morning. During the ensuing encounter, Rajput received a bullet in his foot and was nabbed. He was also rushed to a hospital.

SI Kumar, who received a bullet in his belly, is out of danger at Max Hospital after surgery, a top police official said.

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has expressed concern at the incident and asked the SSP, Dehradun, Ajai to provide best medical care to the injured police official. Dhami also called for stern action against Rajput.

Earlier, Tanya was found lying in an unconscious condition in Thano Road area in Dehradun on 13 January. She was rushed to the government Doon Hospital where doctors removed a bullet from her head on Tuesday.

Tanya was identified by her sister Kavya Chauhan when she saw her pictures on social media.

Tanya, who was from Jwalapur locality in Haridwar, was married to Shubham Rajput in Sonipat, Haryana. Tanya is still not in a position to record her statement, stated SHO Raipur police station.

Preliminary police inquiries revealed that Tanya’s husband and father-in-law had gone missing from their Sonipat home since last year.
