Gov pays tribute to Mahatma Gandhi, Lal Bahadur Shastri

Dehradun, 2 Oct: Governor Lt General Gurmit Singh (Retd) paid homage to the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi, and former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri on their birth anniversaries by offering flowers before their portraits. A prayer meeting was also organised on this occasion.

In the presence of all officials and staff of Raj Bhawan, artists from the Bhatkhande Music College in Dehradun sang Gandhiji’s favourite bhajans, including “Raghupati Raghav Raja Ram,” “Vaishnav Jan To Tene Kahiye Je Peer Parayi Jaani Re,” “Shri Ramchandra Kripalu Bhajuman,” and “Thumak Chalat Ramchandra Bajat Paijanya.”

During the event, the Governor stated that Mahatma Gandhi paved the way for truth and non-violence, and his principles remain relevant even today. Remembering former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri, the Governor highlighted that his life of simplicity and humility would always be a source of inspiration for all. Both these great leaders symbolise the nation’s morals and ideals. He emphasised that, today, “we must strengthen our commitment to truth, non-violence, peace, and service to society by following their ideals”.

On this occasion, the Governor felicitated the environment friends who have made commendable contributions in the field of cleanliness and appreciated their efforts.

Present at the event were First Lady Gurmeet Kaur, Secretary to the Governor Ravinath Raman, Legal Advisor Amit Kumar Sirohi, Additional Secretary Swati S Bhadauria, Deputy Secretary GD Nautiyal, Joint Director, Information, Dr Nitin Upadhyay, and other officials and personnel of Raj Bhawan.
