Dehradun, 15 Oct: The First Keshav Chandra Joshi Memorial Pool Tournament concluded at Maximum Break Academy, here, today.
Aditya Khatri defeated Mahan Sahni in a best of 9 frames. Aditya Khatri is also the current Uttarakhand Sub Junior Champion in the sport of pool.
Chief Guest Dr Dhananjay Mohan, PCCF (HoFF), gave away the prizes to the winners and certificates of participation to all the 24 participants who had come from across the state. Dr Mohan expressed happiness over organising such tournaments which act as motivators amongst the budding talents of the state. He remarked that such endeavours will uplift the standard of the game in the state and help more sportspersons join this game along with billiards and snooker.
Dr Avinash Chandra Joshi, Professor CPP, Doon University, elucidated that the very purpose of organising such an event was not only a way to pay homage to his late father, Keshav Chandra Joshi, who was a greater promoter of sports, but also to encourage the youth to join the green table sport. Since this is a costly affair, not many youths take up this sport, and hence the nominal entrance fee encourages them to participate in large numbers. Sachin Tamta, proprietor of Maximum Break Academy, shared that he has been continuously promoting this sport since 2015 by bringing in state of the art equipment to the city of Doon. He plans to host the National Snooker Championship in Doon in the near future and also hopes the sponsors would be generous in their assistance for this noble cause. This will be a big occasion for the state of Uttarakhand and will boast the morale of the billiards and snooker players of the state.
The Keshav Chandra Joshi Memorial Pool Tournament was also graced by Brigadier Bipul Khanduri, former IAS officer Anil Bahuguna, and the members of the Joshi family Neena, Amitabh, Nidhi, Reena, Akash and Vani Joshi.
