SBS University hosts National Workshop on ‘Stem Cell Banking’

Dehradun, 17 Oct: Sardar Bhagwan Singh University successfully hosted a National Workshop on ‘Stem Cell Banking: A Lifeline for Tomorrow’, here, today.

This event focused on the scientific, ethical, and regulatory dimensions of stem cell preservation and its promising applications in medical therapies.

The workshop attracted over 250 participants, including experts, researchers, and scholars from various higher education institutions in Uttarakhand and Delhi. Dr Ashwani Bhardwaj, Head of the Department of Medical Laboratory Technology at Kalpana Chawla Government Polytechnic for Women in Ambala, Haryana, delivered the keynote address. He provided groundbreaking insights into stem cell banking, emphasising its crucial role in collecting, processing, and storing stem cells for future medical use. Dr Bhardwaj discussed the wide-ranging applications of stem cell banking, from treating blood disorders to advancing personalised medicine. He also addressed the legal and ethical considerations surrounding stem cell banking and the responsibilities of regulatory bodies in this field.

In his inaugural address, Vice-Chancellor Prof (Dr) J Kumar highlighted the transformative potential of stem cells in treating various diseases and conditions. He described stem cell banking as a forward-thinking health strategy that could significantly enhance personal and global healthcare by offering solutions for life-threatening diseases and facilitating organ regeneration.

Dr Pooja Naudiyal coordinated the event and expressed gratitude to all attendees for their engagement and support. The organising team included notable faculty members such as Deepika Jalal (Organising Secretary), Dr Surbhi Pradhan, Naveen Singh, Manoj Dhadwal, and Preeti Bhatt.

The workshop was further enriched by the presence of distinguished guests including Dr Deepak Sahni (Registrar), Prof Maneesh Arora (Dean of Student Welfare), Prof Veerma Ram (Director of the School of Pharmaceutical Sciences and Technology), and other faculty members. Their participation underscored SBSU’s commitment to maintaining high academic standards and fostering an intellectually stimulating environment for all participants.

This workshop not only served as a platform for knowledge exchange but also reinforced the importance of stem cell banking in contemporary medical science, paving the way for future advancements in regenerative medicine and therapeutic applications.
