Haridwar, 11 Dec: Ever since IAS officer Karmendra Singh has taken charge as Haridwar District Magistrate, he has been actively taking action against negligent officers by conducting surprise inspections of government offices. Today, again, Singh conducted surprise inspections of various offices and found many officers absent from duty.

To begin with, DM Karmendra Singh reached the office of the Irrigation Department at 10:10 a.m. to conduct the inspection. Here, he found 13 officials including the Irrigation Engineer to be absent from duty. This was followed by a surprise inspection at the Jal Sansthan Office at 10:20 a.m. Here, Singh found that 10 officials including 3 Assistant Engineers (AEs) and 6 Additional Assistant Engineers (AAEs) had not arrived at the office. Additionally, four officials hired through outsourcing were also missing from duty.

Singh sought the Tour Register related to the field officials of the Jal Sansthan, but it was not shown to him. Then the DM reprimanded the officers and employees present for not maintaining the old files properly after he saw that these were gathering dust and there was poor cleanliness in the toilets and the office.

At 10:30 a.m., Singh inspected Rishikul Vidyapeeth Brahmacharyashram Sanskrit School, where five assistant teachers were found absent. The District Magistrate reprimanded the school staff for poor maintenance of sanitation in the school and the school office and directed them to improve the arrangements. He instructed the staff to keep the office premises clean regularly and maintain all arrangements. He warned that inspections could be conducted again at any time in the future. The DM also issued orders that no officer or employee shall remain absent from the office without pre-approved leave. Officers and employees must reach the office at the scheduled time before the public arrives. Singh stated that surprise inspections will be conducted periodically to ensure the presence of all officers and employees.
