Dehradun, 1 Jan: Reports are being received from a few Urban Local Bodies claiming that nomination papers of a few Congress candidates have been rejected. In the Dehradun Municipal Corporation elections, a controversy has arisen following the cancellation of the No Objection Certificate (NOC) issued by the Municipal Corporation. After the nomination process, Raipur MLA from BJP, Umesh Sharma Kau, demanded the cancellation of the NOC for Congress candidates, alleging it was issued improperly. This led to sloganeering at the time.
This afternoon, the NOC for Congress candidate Wasim Ansari Ilyas Ansari from Ward Bhagat Singh Colony was cancelled, resulting in the rejection of his nomination. In response, Congress members gathered at the Municipal Corporation, accusing the administration of acting under BJP pressure. Senior Congress leader and former Home Minister Pritam Singh also arrived to register his protest.
In addition, reports received from Manglaur Municipal Council also claim that the nomination of Congress candidate Chaudhary Islam for the post of Mangalore Municipal Council President has also been rejected. Objections were raised during the nomination process, claiming that Chaudhary Islam is in illegal possession of Nuzul Land. The Congress claims on the other hand that he neither possessed any Nazul land nor any such land is registered in his name. Chaudhary Islam’s nominations were accepted in the 2003, 2008, 2013, and 2018 elections even though similar allegations were levelled against him every time. This time, however, the election officer rejected his nomination on certain grounds.
Not only this, as per the reports received, the nomination of the Congress candidate for the post of District Panchayat President of Herbertpur, Vikasnagar, has also been allegedly rejected, leading to clashes between Congress leaders and officials in Tehsil, with a heavy police presence on the spot. The nomination of the Congress candidate for Nagar Panchayat Nanakmatta has also been rejected according to some Congress sources.
