Dehradun, 17 Jan: SPECS has been actively working on important issues such as food adulteration, water quality, rainwater harvesting, energy efficiency, solar electricity, air pollution, river pollution, footpaths for senior citizens and children, the construction of cycling lanes, and promoting urban afforestation in the state.

As the municipal and municipal corporation elections in Uttarakhand approach, it along with a number of other organisations has at a press conference held here, today, apspealed through the media to all political parties to recognise the seriousness of these issues and include them in their election agenda. All candidates have been asked to show a solid commitment to these issues by incorporating the following points in their manifestos:

  1. Development plans for each ward should be created in Ward Sabha/Mohalla Sabha.
  2. Take strict action against food adulteration and ensure safe and healthy food for all.
  3. Improve water quality through better water purification systems and effective management.
  4. Promote rainwater harvesting to provide a sustainable solution to water shortages.
  5. Invest in energy-efficient structures to reduce energy consumption and promote green energy.
  6. Take effective measures to tackle air pollution, including better monitoring and actions for clean air.
  7. Control river pollution and ensure the protection and rejuvenation of the rivers.
  8. Provide safe footpaths for senior citizens and children to ensure safe transportation in urban areas.
  9. Develop special cycling lanes to promote environmentally friendly transportation and improve urban mobility.
  10. Promote urban afforestation and involve communities in environmental conservation efforts.
  11. When constructing roads, the elevation of the road should be adjusted, as raising road levels has led to many houses in Dehradun being below the road level. This causes flooding of residents’ homes during every monsoon.

The organisations have urged all political parties to take these issues seriously and work towards building a sustainable, healthy, and inclusive future for the people of Uttarakhand.

The press conference was attended by Brigadier KG Behl (Retd), Biju Negi, Hari Raj Singh, Neeraj Uniyal, Dr Mukul Sharma, Sushil Tyagi, Ashish Garg, Balendu Joshi, Chaudhary Omveer Singh, Pradeep Kukreti, Naveen Kumar Sadana, Awadhesh Sharma, Jitendra Dandona, Dinesh Bhandari, Ram Teerath Maurya, Ashok Kumar, Swami S Chandra, Neetu Walia, Jagdish Sharma, L Mohan Lakhera, JS Rawat, and Saurabh Dhoundiyal.
