Sports Minister Rekha Arya congratulates medal winners in Boxing

Dehradun, 7 Feb: Sportspersons from Uttarakhand gave an outstanding performance in boxing, today, at the National Games, winning three gold medals and a total of five medals. Sports Minister Rekha Arya described this achievement as a historic one, as Uttarakhand’s team reached the top 10 for the first time in the history of the National Games.

On Friday, in various boxing events, Uttarakhand’s Nivedita Karki, Kapil Pokharia, and Narendra won gold medals. Additionally, Kajal and Himanshu Solanki won silver medals. With three gold medals in a single day, Uttarakhand made a significant leap in the medals tally, surpassing major states like Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, and West Bengal to secure a place in the top 10.

Sports Minister Rekha Arya congratulated all the medal-winning players, stating that they have brought pride to Devbhoomi. She stated that the dream of making Devbhoomi a hub for sports is being realised as the players are truly living up to expectations. The Minister also expressed the hope that the athletes will win a large number of medals in upcoming athletics and other competitions, improving the state’s position in the medals tally.

Minister Arya mentioned that Uttarakhand’s best performance until now had been in Goa, where the state won 24 medals, including 3 golds. However, this time, Uttarakhand has already won nearly double the number of medals, with half the events still remaining. She highlighted that this year’s National Games have established Uttarakhand as a major force in Boxing, Wushu, and Taekwondo.

In the 37th National Games held in Goa, Uttarakhand won 24 medals, including 3 gold, 6 silver, and 14 bronze, securing 25th position in the medal tally.

In the 36th National Games held in Gujarat in 2022, Uttarakhand won 18 medals.

In the 35th National Games held in Kerala in 2014, Uttarakhand won 19 medals.

In the 34th National Games held in Ranchi in 2011, Uttarakhand won 13 medals.

In the 33rd National Games held in Guwahati in 2007, Uttarakhand won 13 medals.

In the 32nd National Games held in Hyderabad in 2002, Uttarakhand won 10 medals.
