Cambodian officials, engaged in Public Policy & Governance Training, visit RSC, Dehradun

Dehradun, 17 Feb: A delegation of 40 Cambodian officials, currently undergoing a specialised training programme on Public Policy and Governance at the National Centre for Good Governance (NCGG) in Mussoorie, visited the Regional Science Centre (RSC), here, today. The training programme, which runs from 10 to 21 February, includes participants from key Cambodian institutions such as the Ministry of Civil Service, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Office of the Council of Ministers, Ministry of Women’s Affairs, and Ministry of Social Affairs, Veterans, and Youth Rehabilitation.

During their visit to the Regional Science Centre, the Cambodian officials explored the Himalayan Gallery and experienced the 3D theatre showcasing scientific and environmental themes. To mark the occasion, a special programme was organised for the delegates, featuring insightful discussions and presentations by eminent experts in science, technology, and governance.

Dr DP Uniyal, Joint Director, UCOST, delivered the welcome address, extending a warm welcome to all the guests. This was followed by an address by Dr BS Bisht, Course Director, National Centre for Good Governance, Government of India, who shared his views on the occasion.

Prof Durgesh Pant, Director General, Uttarakhand State Council for Science & Technology, UCOST, gave a brief presentation on ‘Science & Technology Vimarsh’, highlighting key UCOST initiatives and ongoing programmes.

The event was attened by Cambodian officials, including Man Chinda, Secretary of State, and Sok Seng Yan, Vice President of the Royal School of Administration.

Adding to the discourse on sustainability and innovation, Dr GS Rawat, former Director, Wildlife Institute of India (WII), Dehradun, and former Emeritus Scientist, UCOST, presented on “Sustaining the Himalayan Ecosystem under Changing Climate”. He emphasised the need for climate resilience strategies in fragile mountainous regions.

Dr Kapil Joshi, IFS (Retd), former PCCF and Emeritus Scientist, UCOST, Dehradun, delivered an insightful talk on “Forest-Based Entrepreneurship Development”, discussing the role of sustainable forest-based businesses in economic and environmental conservation.

Dr Reema Pant, Professor, Innovation and Environment Department, Graphic Era University, spoke on ‘SHE for STEM’, underlining the importance of promoting women’s participation in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.

The visit facilitated meaningful exchanges between Indian and Cambodian officials, fostering collaboration in governance, science, and technology. The programme concluded with an interactive session, allowing delegates to share insights and explore potential partnerships.
