‘Gender Sensitisation Workshop’ held at U’chal University

Dehradun 6 Mar: The Women Cell of Uttaranchal School of Computing Sciences, Uttaranchal University, in association with “Shri Nityanand Swami Jan Sewa Samiti-JAI Youth Wing, Dehradun, organised a workshop on “Gender Sensitization” to promote Inclusivity and Awareness, here, today.

The session aimed to create awareness about gender equality, address stereotypes, and promote a culture of respect and understanding among students.

Present at the inaugural ceremony were Jitender Joshi, President, Uttaranchal University, Chief Guest Anjali S Chauhan, Program Officer at the National Gender and Child Centre, LBSNAA, Mussoorie, Guest of Honour Dr Geeta Khanna, Chairperson, State Commission of Child Rights Protection, Uttarakhand, Ankita Joshi, Vice President, Uttaranchal University, Prof (Dr) Dharam Buddhi, Vice-Chancellor, Prof (Dr) Rajesh Bahuguna, Pro Vice-Chancellor, Prof (Dr) Abhishek Joshi, Executive Director-Student Affairs & IT Services, Prof (Dr) Sonal Sharma, Director, USCS, Dr Sameer Dev Sharma, HoD-USCS, and Vinayak Sharma Swami, President- “JAI” Youth Wing Shri Nityanand Swami Jan Sewa Samiti.

Prof (Dr) Sonal Sharma extended a warm welcome to dignitaries at the workshop. She emphasised that “Gender Sensitization” is not just about understanding differences but about embracing equality in all spheres of life.

Prof (Dr) Dharam Buddhi emphasised that true societal growth comes by fostering equality, respecting differences, and breaking stereotypes to build an inclusive and progressive community.

Anjali S Chauhan conducted an exercise on men-women equality, explaining that differences like physical attributes do not define capabilities. Interactive activities encouraged participants to reflect on gender-based prejudices and explore ways to build a discrimination-free environment.

Dr Geeta Khanna highlighted that biological attributes are set by God and every day should be celebrated as Women’s Day and emphasised the importance of recognising women’s contributions in all spheres of life.

A poster-making competition, along with a mime act and dance performances, conveyed a powerful message of gender sensitisation. These creative expressions emphasised equality, challenged stereotypes, and encouraged a discrimination-free society, leaving a lasting impact on the audience.

The vote of thanks was proposed by Vinayak Sharma Swami. The inaugural session was successfully concluded with the support of Manisha Saini, Manisha Khanduja, Harshit Gupta and Divya Rawat, Nisha Rana and Noopur Dass.
