CHAMOLI, 8 Mar: On the instructions of Chief Minister Pushkar Dhami, the construction of a temporary bridge on the Alaknanda river at Govind Ghat has been successfully completed, ensuring access to Pulna village and Hemkund Sahib. It has also been claimed that the alternative temporary bridge has been constructed in less than 14 Hours time.

It may be recalled that the existing bridge on the Alaknanda river was damaged by a landslide, blocking the route to Pulna village and Hemkund Sahib, causing significant difficulties for local residents. Recognising the urgency, a prompt action was taken under the Chief Minister’s directives, resulting in the rapid completion of the temporary bridge.

It may be recalled that on March 5, at 10:15 am, the existing bridge connecting Govindghat, Pulna, and Hemkund was damaged due to sliding rock boulders, necessitating the immediate construction of an alternative bridge. Under the initiative of Chamoli district Magistrate Sandeep Tiwari, the Public Works Department, and Govindghat Gurudwara, an alternative bridge was constructed in less than 14 hours using iron pipes and tracks. The bridge measures 45 feet in length and 4.30 feet in width. Sardar Seva Singh, manager of Gurudwara Govindghat, stated that the bridge was built under the guidance of the District Officer, with contributions from the Gurudwara.

This rapid response has restored connectivity to the affected areas, ensuring that residents and pilgrims can travel safely once again.
