Roorkee (Haridwar), 19 May: In a major crackdown on corruption, the Vigilance Trap Team today arrested Rohit, a clerk (Peshkar) posted at the Additional Tehsildar’s Office, Roorkee, while accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000. The action was taken on the basis of a complaint registered by the aggrieved party on the toll-free number 1064.
According to the complainant, a case regarding his sister’s agricultural land was pending in the Tehsildar’s Court, Roorkee. On 24 March 2025, a unilateral order was passed in the matter. Subsequently, on 21 April, the complainant submitted a restoration application for a fresh hearing. In exchange for processing this application, Rohit, resident of House No 273, Gram Kasba Roorkee, District Haridwar, allegedly demanded a bribe of Rs 25,000.
Instead of paying the bribe, the complainant informed the Vigilance Department. Acting swiftly, the Vigilance team laid a trap and caught Rohit red-handed while accepting Rs 10,000 in the presence of independent witnesses here today. Following the arrest, a search was conducted at Rohit’s residence and further investigation into his movable and immovable properties is underway. After this success, Vigilance Director Dr V Murugesan announced a cash reward for the Trap Team. The Vigilance Department has urged the public to immediately inform the authorities if any government employee demands a bribe for official work or is found possessing assets disproportionate to their income at the toll-free number 1064 or WhatsApp number 9456592300.
