Dehradun, 21 May: A seminar on financial awareness was organised at the Raj Bhavan, here, under the aegis of the State Bank of India (SBI), today. During the seminar, experts shared important insights related to personal financial management and safe banking practices.
Addressing the participants, Rajiv Sharma, Assistant Vice President at SBI Life, emphasised that planned financial management is essential for life stability and economic security. He highlighted the importance of budgeting, controlling expenses, and practicing regular savings. He also explained various long-term investment options such as mutual funds, fixed deposits, stock market investments, and the Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana.
Ratandeep Singh, Deputy Manager at SBI, shed light on aspects of secure banking. He advised the use of strong passwords, regularly updating them, and avoiding the use of the same password across multiple platforms to prevent cyber fraud. He also warned participants against falling for tempting offers and fake lottery scams.
Participating in the seminar, Governor Lt Gen Gurmit Singh (Retd) stated that financial awareness is not just a tool for individual prosperity but also a foundation for holistic economic development. He termed such initiatives as the need of the hour, especially for sensitising the general public and youth on financial literacy. The Governor called for the regular holding of financial literacy programmes in schools and colleges.
The Governor expressed concern that a large section of the population in India still lacks basic knowledge related to financial planning, investment, and savings. He expressed confidence that, through this seminar, participants would have strengthened their financial skills and also gained important knowledge to stay safe from cybercrime.
Present at the programme were Dr Tripti Srivastava, Financial Controller; Ashish Rawat, Regional Manager, SBI; Aarti Thapliyal, Chief Manager; Sumit Goyal, Deputy Manager; as well as Raj Bhavan officials, staff, and college students.
