Dehradun, 28 May: District Magistrate and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Smart City Limited, Savin Bansal today chaired a review meeting on various ongoing construction projects under the Smart City initiative. During the meeting, he issued strict directives to the implementing agencies to ensure that all Smart City projects are completed with high quality and within the stipulated timelines.
In line with the Chief Minister’s vision, the District Administration is actively working on traffic management in the city. This includes developing and expanding new slip roads, roundabouts, and flyovers, as well as redesigning major intersections in a traditional style. The installation of traffic lights at 11 key intersections to manage city traffic is also underway on a war footing. For the first time in five years, as per the DM’s resolve, 100 police CCTV cameras installed at major intersections have been integrated with the Smart Control Room for enhanced public safety. Additionally, 66 high-tech digital devices installed at 66 bus stops under the Smart City project have been activated. The DM issued a warning to HP officials that no payment would be released if even a single device was found to be non-functional.
Bansal also expressed displeasure over the slow progress of the construction of Uttarakhand’s first Integrated Green Building in Dehradun. He stated in a firm tone that the Green Building is an ambitious project and in line with public expectations, he instructed the agency to expedite construction by deploying an adequate number of manpower, machinery, and materials at the site, and to immediately complete all formalities for obtaining permission for the concrete plant.
The DM also directed that civil work at traditionally styled intersections like Dilaram Chowk, Kuthal Gate, Ghantaghar, and Sai Mandir Chowk be completed before the monsoon season. He also emphasised the urgent completion of traffic light installations at all 11 intersections crucial for city traffic management, including Maharana Pratap Chowk, IT Park, Nalapani, Mothrowala, Transport Nagar Tiraaha, Prem Nagar, Suddhowala, Dhoolkot Tiraaha, Rangadwala Tiraaha, Selaqui Bazaar Tiraaha, and Dak Patthar.
The DM also directed that the installation of RCC pipes and chamber construction under the drainage system at ISBT be completed by 5 June. For drainage cleaning at the Chandrabani site near ISBT, he instructed the Dehradun Municipal Corporation to conduct an immediate site inspection and ensure drainage clearance before the monsoon. For resolving the overflow situation at Prince Chowk due to pending sewer manhole construction and lack of connectivity, departments were instructed to coordinate and take swift action.
The DM further reviewed the current status of all cameras operating under Smart City Ltd. As per the his initiative, for the first time in five years, 150 police CCTV cameras installed at major intersections have been successfully integrated with the Smart Control Room. Bansal stated that the responsible department causing damage to live camera cables and infrastructure connected to the Doon Integrated Command Control Centre should be identified. This matter should be placed before the board meeting so that compensation for the damage can be recovered from the responsible department. The DM urged the implementing agency to pay special attention to the quality of construction work and to provide certificates for completed works, confirming that they meet the prescribed standards.
The meeting was attended amongst others by Chief Development Officer (CDO) Abhinav Shah, ACEOs Teerth Pal Singh, Finance and Financial Controller Manoj Kumar Pandey, AGMs Krishna Pallav Chamola, Sandhya Bijalwan (Finance), Manveer Joshi (IT), PIU Praveen Kush, EE CPWD Sanjay Dandriyal, AE DSCL Ashish Mishra and Rajiv Kumar from BSNL.
