Dehradun, 30 May: BJP State President and Rajya Sabha MP Mahendra Bhatt has welcomed the court’s verdict in the Ankita Bhandari murder case and has described it as a decision that brings solace and satisfaction to the people of Devbhoomi. He stated that justice has been served due to irrefutable evidence and strong advocacy by the investigating agencies. He urged political and social organisations to respond with sensitivity and seriousness to the issue.
Speaking to the media here today, Bhatt admitted that no verdict can fill the void left in Ankita’s family due to her brutal murder. However, the Kotdwar court’s order sentencing the three culprits to life imprisonment as the harshest punishment will help ease their pain. He noted that while the judicial process took time, the verdict delivered after three years has brought a sense of justice to the people of the state.
Bhatt also praised the investigating agencies for their swift action under the leadership of Chief Minister Pushkar Dhami. He highlighted that the culprits were arrested within 24 hours of the FIR being filed, and Ankita’s body was recovered within 48 hours. The agencies utilised forensic techniques and gathered strong, irrefutable evidence against the accused.
He reminded that CM Dhami had earlier assured that the harshest punishment would be ensured for the culprits. On his instructions, all proceedings were carried out with the consent of the victim’s family regarding the investigation and judicial process. Despite the extensive scope of the investigation and the large number of witnesses and evidence, justice was delivered in the shortest possible time. The BJP respects the decision of the Sessions Court and expresses satisfaction with the outcome, he asserted.
Bhatt also urged the political parties, social organisations, and all stakeholders to approach this tragic incident with seriousness and sensitivity. He emphasised upon the need for a responsible response to the verdict, which reflects the transparency and integrity of the Indian judicial system.
