Dehradun, 21 Jul: With heavy rainfall continuing to disrupt various parts of Uttarakhand, Chief Minister Pushkar Dhami today held a comprehensive virtual review of the state’s monsoon preparedness from the State Disaster Operations Centre located in IT Park. During the review he interacted with District Magistrates across the state and sought feedback regarding the prevailing rain conditions, road connectivity, arrangements for the Char Dham and Kanwar Yatra, and the status of power supply, drinking water, and other essential services.
Emphasising the gravity of the situation, the CM instructed all the administrative officers concerned to remain on round the clock alert during the entire monsoon period. He also directed that advance rainfall alerts be disseminated promptly to the public and that the disaster management machinery be kept fully active at the district, tehsil, block, and village levels. He asserted that the rain hit roads must be cleared immediately, and necessary machinery positioned at landslide-prone zones must ensure quick response and mitigate risks to human life and property.
In view of the vulnerability of hill districts during monsoon, Dhami directed the officials to maintain sufficient reserves of food grains, medicines, and other vital supplies, particularly in remote areas where connectivity may be hampered. He asserted that in case of road blockages, alternative routes and transport plans be implemented to guarantee the uninterrupted movement of residents in affected rural regions. He further issued instructions that all safety protocols be enforced to prevent incidents of electrocution, with special focus on conducting structural audits of bridges throughout the state to rule out potential hazards.
The CM emphasised the importance of continuous monitoring of water levels in rivers and urban waterlogging points, urging that drainage infrastructure be kept clear and functional. He added that the pilgrims coming on the Char Dham Yatra be also given timely weather updates and, wherever halted due to rainfall-related disruptions, must be provided with adequate food, water, and relief services without delay.
Among those present during the review included Secretary, Disaster Management, Vinod Kumar Suman, Additional Chief Executive Officer Anand Swaroop, and Additional Secretary Banshidhar Tiwari, while all the District Magistrates joined virtually to submit real-time updates.
