Dehradun, 31 Jul: The results for the two-phase Panchayat elections are emerging, with vote counting currently underway across the state. In some districts, interesting contests are being witnessed between candidates. The State Election Commission has announced the results for a significant number of posts in the three-tier Panchayat elections. Counting is still underway, but as of the latest update, the results for a total of 6,595 positions have been declared at the time of the filing of the report.
According to the State Election Commission, results for 56 of the 358 Zila Panchayat Member seats have been announced at the time of the filing of this report. For the 2,974 Kshetra Panchayat Member posts, 1,484 results have been declared. The most significant progress has been made in the Gram Panchayat Pradhan category, where results for 5,055 out of 7,499 positions have been officially announced. The final numbers are expected to be updated as the counting concludes in all locations.
The counting for the three-tier Panchayat elections began today at 8 a.m. People are keeping a close watch on the win-loss of their candidates. The counting process is for a total of 10,915 posts. The State Election Commission had made all the necessary preparations in advance, deploying 15,024 personnel for the counting and 8,926 police personnel for security. The fate of a total of 34,151 candidates across various posts in the three-tier Panchayat elections is being decided. The heartbeats of the candidates are rising, while each of them is analysing the village-level voting to claim victory. In a notable victory, 22-year-old Sakshi from Kui village in Pauri Garhwal’s Pabo block won the Gram Pradhan election. Sakshi, who holds a BTech degree from Dehradun, said she has several concrete plans for the development of her village.
In Chakrata constituency, Congress MLA Pritam Singh’s son, Abhishek Singh, has won the Brikwad Bastil seat for Zila Panchayat Member. Other winners include Diwan Singh Tomar from Ara, Virendra Singh Rawat from Magrauli, Congress-backed candidate Praveen Rawat from Zila Panchayat Bayla, and Shyam Singh Chauhan from Zila Panchayat Raigi.
From Ramnagar, BJP MLA Diwan Singh Bisht’s daughter-in-law, Shweta Bisht, has won the post of Kshetra Panchayat Member. Shweta’s husband, Jagmohan Bisht, is a former state vice-president of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM). Shweta defeated her rival, former Block Pramukh’s sister Neema Negi, by 61 votes.
In another significant outcome, 21-year-old Priyanka from CM Dhami’s adopted village has become a Gram Pradhan. Priyanka, the youngest Pradhan in Chamoli district, won the election from the ideal village of Sarkot in the Gairsain development block. A Political Science graduate, Priyanka shared that her father, Rajendra Negi, has previously served as the Gram Pradhan of Sarkot village twice. Sarkot village was adopted by Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami.
