Pabo, Pauri Garhwal, 3 Aug: Cooperation Minister Dr Dhan Singh Rawat formally launched the Veer Madho Singh Bhandari Collective Cooperative Farming Scheme, here, today. On this occasion, the minister joined farmers in the fields and planted flower seeds, giving a practical shape to this ambitious shared farming initiative.

Spread over approximately 170 nali (about 8.5 acres), this project is emerging as a model for revitalising barren lands in Uttarakhand. Millets (nutri-cereals) and floriculture will be cultivated here, not only rejuvenating the land but also providing new avenues of income for local farmers.

Under this scheme, farmers are being organised in a cluster model to undertake collective farming. During the inspection, the farmers’ enthusiasm, participation, and spirit of cooperation were evident. While planting seeds in the fields, the Cooperation Minister said, “The Veer Madho Singh Bhandari Cooperative Farming Scheme is a decisive initiative towards the productive use of barren lands, modernisation of traditional farming, reduction in costs, and enhancement of farmers’ income in rural Uttarakhand.”

This scheme is part of a special campaign by the Uttarakhand Cooperation Department to bring barren fields under cultivation. Under the campaign, unused lands from villagers are taken as clusters and cultivated using modern agricultural techniques. This blend of collectiveness and innovation has the potential to transform the agricultural landscape of the state.

During the inspection, interaction with local farmers was also held to understand their challenges so that future plans could be made more practical and beneficial.

The event was attended by District Panchayat Member Bharat Singh Rawat, MLA representative Gulab Singh, Narendra Tamta, Harendra Kohli, Digambar Singh, District Assistant Registrar of the Cooperation Department Pan Singh Rana, and Cooperative Bank General Manager Sandeep Rawat.
