Dehradun, 6 Aug: BJP state president Mahendra Bhatt today stated that the party is working with the objective of reaching every individual affected by the Uttarkashi disaster, with workers closely coordinating efforts alongside government agencies. He today announced the formation of a 13-member committee within the party organisation to oversee the relief operations in the affected regions.

Bhatt, who is also a Rajya Sabha MP, emphasised that apart from the government led response, all the BJP MPs, elected representatives and grassroots workers are actively involved in the relief and rescue efforts. Addressing the media here today, Bhatt observed that in the aftermath of the Dharali disaster, the government agencies at both central and state levels have launched rescue and aid operations on a war-footing. He claimed that well-coordinated efforts are underway to safely evacuate those trapped and to identify individuals who may still be buried under debris.

Bhatt also shared that Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah and national BJP President JP Nadda are being regularly updated on the progress and have assured all necessary assistance from the Centre.

Bhatt reminded that Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami is personally leading the relief effort on ground zero. After visiting the disaster site and reviewing rescue activities, Dhami has stayed back to supervise ongoing operations. Agencies including the army, ITBP, NDRF, SDRF, local police and the health department are all engaged at full capacity in providing disaster relief.

He also reminded that in connection with these efforts, four BJP Lok Sabha MPs have met the Prime Minister and Home Minister to communicate the gravity of the situation in Uttarkashi. They have received assurances of full support from the Centre. Minister of State for Road and Transport Ajay Tamta has also reached the disaster zone, accompanied by senior officials from the Border Roads Organisation and National Highways, to assess the damage and expedite road restoration and rescue efforts.

Bhatt further stated that the state unit of the BJP has constituted a dedicated team that will visit the affected zones and extend support by distributing relief supplies and facilitating health services to those impacted.

State media in-charge Manveer Chauhan informed that under the chairmanship of state general secretary Aditya Kothari, specific responsibilities have been entrusted to MPs, MLAs, senior leaders and regional coordinators to enhance the party’s disaster response initiatives. The committee includes Tehri MP Mala Rajyalakshmi Shah, Gangotri MLA Suresh Chauhan and Purola MLA Durgeshwar Lal, along with key government functionaries Rajkumar, Jagat Singh Chauhan, Pratap Singh Panwar and Ram Sundar Nautiyal. He added that also part of the committee are state media in-charge Manveer Singh Chauhan, former MLA Malchand, as well as leaders Vijaypal Sajwan, Kedar Rawat and Rajesh Juantha.

This leadership group has been constituted to provide region-specific oversight and ensure coordination across affected areas, particularly in the wake of recent natural calamities in Uttarkashi. Each member is expected to lead efforts in their designated constituencies and support the broader relief operations with logistical, strategic and humanitarian assistance. The move reflects the party’s commitment to a decentralised and responsive approach to crisis management, aligning political leadership with ground-level execution.
