Dehradun, 21 Aug: The BJP state spokesperson and senior leader Dr Sunita Baudai Vidyarthi said today that several important bills were passed during the Monsoon Session held in the Summer Capital, Gairsain.

Prominent among these were: The Uttarakhand Minority Education Bill 2025 – aimed at improving the education system in madrasas and extending benefits to other minority communities including Sikhs, Jains, Christians, and Parsis.

The Uttarakhand Freedom of Religion and Prohibition of Unlawful Practices (Amendment) Bill 2025 – making the law against illegal religious conversions more stringent, with punishment extended up to life imprisonment.

Along with these, the Supplementary Budget, UP Shri Badrinath & Shri Kedarnath Temple Act 1939 (Amendment) Bill 2025, Uttarakhand Private Universities (Amendment) Bill 2025, Uttarakhand Witness Protection (Repeal) Bill 2025, Uttarakhand Panchayati Raj (Amendment) Bill 2025, and Uttarakhand Democracy Fighters’ Honour Bill 2025 were also passed.

Dr Vidyarthi said that no one would want the Assembly session to be reduced to uproar and chaos, ignoring the real issues of public welfare. Unfortunately, the Congress legislators indulged in disruptive behaviour marked by sloganeering, vandalism, and unruly conduct — acts that were undemocratic, unconstitutional, and highly insensitive.

She further stated that Congress never wanted a meaningful discussion in the Gairsain session. its only motive was to create a ruckus and grab media headlines, because it was unable to face debates on critical issues such as the anti-conversion law and reforms in madrasas. Their stance against Sanatan values is well known, and they could not dare to openly oppose such laws in the heart of Devbhoomi.

Another reason behind the Congress uproar, she said, was its humiliating defeat in the recent Panchayat elections. Unable to accept the people’s verdict, they avoided serious debates inside the Assembly.

“At a time when the state is courageously dealing with disasters, the Opposition shamefully ran away from discussions on this vital issue, revealing that their priority was never people’s welfare, but personal gain,” she added.

Dr Vidyarthi alleged that the Congress uproar was aimed at diverting public attention and seeking relief in the cases pending against their leaders. “Running the Assembly only for sloganeering, vandalism, and political agendas goes against constitutional traditions and public expectations,” she emphasised.

She praised the State Government for successfully completing all important legislative business as per the Business Advisory Committee’s schedule, despite the Opposition’s attempts to obstruct proceedings.

Highlighting the history of Congress, she said, “From the very beginning, Congress has opposed both the formation and development of Uttarakhand. It was our government that declared Gairsain as the Summer Capital, started Assembly sessions there, and continues to work for its development.”
