Dehradun, 2 Sep: Dehradun has been experiencing relentless heavy rainfall over the past two days, prompting the district administration to remain vigilant around the clock. District Magistrate Savin Bansal has instructed the officials to keep a close watch on the current situation in every block and tehsil, receiving continuous updates on developments.

In a statement, the district administration claimed that the residents living along riverbanks have been cautioned and advised to stay at safe locations, in accordance with directives of the DM. As a measure of precaution, all schools and Anganwadi centres across the district remained closed yesterday and today. Additional District Magistrate KK Mishra is closely monitoring evolving conditions in each tehsil and development block, and the officials at all tehsils and blocks have been directed to operate in alert mode.

According to the District Disaster Control Room, the Ganga River at Triveni Ghat is currently flowing above the danger mark, while the Yamuna and Tons rivers remain below critical levels. The district administration further shared that the people are being advised against approaching the riverbanks and to maintain a safe distance.

As per the rainfall data from the district, Chakrata has recorded 35 mm, Kalsi 32 mm, Hathibarkala 21.5 mm, Mussoorie 36.5 mm, UCOST 40.5 mm, Koti 46 mm, Maldevta 22.5 mm, Mohkampur 26 mm, Jolly Grant 28.5 mm, Raiwala 18.5 mm, and Vikasnagar 15.5 mm. Officials claim that of the 106 waterlogging incidents reported, 104 have already been resolved.

It was reported that heavy downpour led to closure of the Tyuni Chakrata Rota Khad motor road at kilometres 44 and 45, where restoration work is currently underway. All state and district roads in the district remain operational, though 30 rural roads were disrupted due to rain. The PMGSY and PWD are taking measures to restore these routes. Electricity and drinking water supply across all tehsils is running smoothly.

It was further shared that to tackle the issue of waterlogging in Municipal Corporation areas, rapid response teams (QRT) have been deployed under the leadership of City Magistrate Pratyush Singh, SDM Harigiri, and SDM Kumkum Joshi. These teams, working in coordination with officers from concerned departments, are regularly surveying waterlogged locations. Seventeen high-pressure dewatering pumps have been installed at major junctions to address flooding. The presence of dewatering pumps with QRTs has led to quicker response times, with immediate relief provided wherever waterlogging is detected.
