Dehradun, 18 Nov: Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami conducted an unannounced inspection of the Inter-State Bus Terminus (ISBT) in Dehradun this afternoon, arriving directly from the Secretariat. His sudden presence created a stir among the administrative staff as he moved through the premises, inspecting cleanliness, passenger amenities, transport operations, and overall management. Expressing strong displeasure over the unhygienic conditions at several locations within the complex, he made it clear that negligence in maintaining cleanliness at important public facilities would not be tolerated.

Not only this, in a symbolic yet stern gesture on this occasion, the CM also picked up a broom and swept the premises himself, sending a powerful message that the state’s cleanliness campaigns must be implemented on the ground and not remain confined to files and slogans.

Dhami issued firm instructions to the Mussoorie Dehradun Development Authority (MDDA) and the Transport Department to ensure regular sanitation of the ISBT, installation of visible sanitation-related information boards, and the creation of a clean, dust-free, and waste-free environment for passengers. He specifically directed MDDA Vice Chairman Banshidhar Tiwari to prepare and immediately implement a robust action plan to improve cleanliness and operational efficiency at the bus terminus. During the inspection, the CM also reviewed the functioning of ticket counters, waiting halls, drinking water facilities, toilets, shops, and security arrangements. He emphasised that Uttarakhand, being a prominent tourist and pilgrimage destination visited by lakhs of devotees and travellers annually, needs to uphold high standards of cleanliness and service at all transport hubs, including bus stands and railway stations.

Interacting with passengers at the ISBT, Dhami also enquired about their travel experiences and sought direct feedback on the facilities provided. He noted that the suggestions and grievances of passengers would serve as a vital input for improving public services. He further announced that the State Government would soon launch a comprehensive cleanliness campaign across Uttarakhand, driven by public participation and community engagement. He warned the officials that during his next visit, all systems at the ISBT must be fully rectified and visibly improved, failing which strict disciplinary action would be taken against those found responsible for lapses.

Senior officials from the MDDA and the Transport Department accompanied the Chief Minister during the inspection. The visit comes amid growing public concern over deteriorating hygiene standards at major transport nodes in the state capital. The CM’s intervention is being seen as a strong move to hold departments accountable and restore public confidence in the administration’s commitment to basic civic standards.
