Dehradun, 29 Nov: The Mussoorie Dehradun Development Authority (MDDA) has claimed to have launched a large-scale enforcement drive against the growing spread of illegal constructions, unauthorised plotting and residential and commercial structures being raised without sanctioned maps across its jurisdiction. MDDA teams conducted sealing and demolition operations in Mussoorie, Vikasnagar, Sherpur and several parts of Dehradun, in a firm stand against violations of building norms yesterday and continued the action today.

The Authority reiterated that illegal construction and unauthorised land development would not be tolerated under any circumstances. As part of the day’s action, the first operation was carried out on Kempty Mussoorie Road, where an illegal commercial structure being constructed by Khushal Singh without map approval was immediately sealed. The team asserted that erecting commercial establishments without MDDA permission constitutes a serious breach of regulations.

In Herbertpur, the operation targeted unauthorised plotting of nearly 20 bighas of land near Vivekananda Hospital by Lakhan Singh and Jagvir Singh. The MDDA team demolished the illegal plots using a bulldozer. Similar action followed in the Kalyanpur–Paonta Road area, where illegal plotting of about 15 to 20 bighas of land by Praveen Bansal was razed.

The fourth major action was undertaken in Sherpur, Selaqui, where around 30 bighas of land had been illegally plotted by Jabbar Ali. The MDDA team marked the area and demolished the structures with a bulldozer. With the region witnessing rapid development, the Authority claims to have kept it under continuous watch due to the rising number of unauthorised colonies.

Speaking informally to the media, Vice-Chairman of MDDA, Banshidhar Tiwari asserted that the MDDA would maintain strict surveillance on all residential and commercial construction being carried out without approved maps and warned that strong action would continue against violators. He said the current operations send a clear message that the Authority is committed to ensuring planned and orderly development in the region.
