Dehradun, 10 Dec: A grand educational and awareness programme was organised on Wednesday by the Rotary Club of Mussoorie at Sanatan Dharma Girls Inter College under the RYLA – Rotary Youth Leadership Award 2025 and RYLA Shield.

Approximately 120 students from Sanatan Dharma Girls Inter College and Sanatan Dharma Sanskrit Vidyalaya enthusiastically participated in the programme. It was conducted by Rotary President Deepak Agarwal, former President and IG (Retd) Manoranjan Tripathi, and PP Shailendra Karanwal. Rotarian Ashwini Mittal, former President DK Jain, Principal Namrata Srivastava, and several teachers from the school were also present on the occasion. During the programme, a team from the local transport department provided the students with detailed information about the new Motor Vehicles Act, the driving licence process, and road safety rules.

Instructor Pankaj Srivastava gave an effective presentation on following traffic rules, the importance of helmets and seat belts, safe driving, and preventing road accidents. The students also asked several questions during the interactive session. Disaster management master trainer Raju Sahay provided information on safety measures to be taken during disasters such as earthquakes, floods, landslides, and fires. Sushil Singh Kainthura also assisted in the programme. The trainers also informed the students about the mobile app BhuDev, which issues an alarm before an earthquake to alert people. In the fire safety session, the students were given information on the correct use of fire extinguishers, evacuation procedures in case of fire, and basic firefighting measures. Practical demonstrations increased the students’ awareness of safety.

On the topic of drug control and awareness, Dr Santosh Negi explained in detail the ill effects of drug abuse on the health, family, and social life of young people. He gave the students a message to stay away from drugs and to inspire their peers to also stay away from drug abuse. Ladhaur Chowki in-charge RK Bumola and his team were also present. They inspired the students to develop self-confidence, discipline, and become responsible citizens. The office bearers of Rotary Club Mussoorie said that such programmes will continue to be organised in the future to empower young people in the areas of leadership, safety, and social responsibility. The RYLA-2025 programme strongly instilled a new sense of enthusiasm, awareness, and social responsibility among the students.
