RISHIKESH, 27 Dec: Following the death of gangster Vinay Tyagi at AIIMS Rishikesh this morning, his family has levelled sensational allegations against the police administration and a prominent contractor. Tyagi, who was admitted on the night of Dec 24 with multiple gunshot wounds, succumbed to his injuries during treatment. Now, his sister Seema Tyagi and his daughter have raised serious doubts, claiming that Tyagi was silenced because he held the key to a massive financial secret involving Rs 750 crore in black money.
Speaking to the media at AIIMS Rishikesh, Seema Tyagi claimed that her brother was aware of the location of Rs 750 crore in unaccounted wealth belonging to a particular contractor. She alleged that this staggering amount was hidden at the Dehradun residence of a doctor. She claimed that Tyagi intended to provide this information to the Enforcement Directorate (ED). When the contractor caught wind of Tyagi’s plan to disclose this, he allegedly used the doctor as a pawn to frame Tyagi in a theft case and send him to prison. Seema Tyagi asserted that a sophisticated conspiracy was hatched to eliminate her brother to ensure that the secret of the hidden wealth died with him.
Detailing the alleged plot, Seema Tyagi stated that the contractor, fearing an imminent raid on his own premises, had moved the cash and jewellery to the doctor’s house for safekeeping. Given that the doctor and Tyagi were close friends, Tyagi discovered the stash and identified it as the contractor’s illegal wealth. The family however admitted that a pre-existing rivalry existed because the contractor had harassed Tyagi during his wife’s election campaign. Seeking retribution, Tyagi decided to expose the funds to the ED.
Vinay Tyagi’s family further claimed that while the doctor was initially reportedly in agreement with Tyagi, the contractor allegedly intimidated the doctor into turning against him. This led to Tyagi being accused of theft and subsequently jailed in September. The family further alleged that Tyagi’s wife was threatened, and multiple “false” cases were registered against him in Laksar and Purkaji to keep him entangled in the legal system. They also questioned the procedural validity of his transfer from Dehradun Jail to Roorkee Jail, claiming it was based on forged documents as the family had never applied for such a shift. The sister pointed out that the security during his transit for a minor court hearing in Laksar was deliberately lax to facilitate the fatal ambush.
On the other hand, countering these claims, SP (City) Pramod Kumar claimed that Tyagi was at his doctor friend’s house in Nehru Colony in September this year. On September 15 the doctor himself lodged a formal complaint against Tyagi, alleging that he had stolen a bag containing cash and jewellery from his car. The police registered the case immediately and arrested Tyagi on September 29 along with the stolen bag.
