Garhwal Post Bureau
New Delhi/Dehradun, 8 Jan: While returning from his visit to West Bengal, State Cabinet Minister Dr Dhan Singh Rawat paid a courtesy call on Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan in New Delhi today. Garhwal MP Anil Baluni was also present during the meeting.
During the interaction, Dr Rawat and MP Anil Baluni placed a proposal before the Union Education Minister for opening a Kendriya Vidyalaya in Gairsain, the summer capital of Uttarakhand. Both leaders held detailed discussions on the subject and informed that the state government is expanding administrative activities in Gairsain while simultaneously strengthening basic infrastructure. They stated that although the state government is making continuous efforts to provide quality education to children of Gairsain and nearby villages, the establishment of a central educational institution would give students of the summer capital and surrounding areas an opportunity to study in a nationally recognised institution. This would also help significantly in curbing migration from the region. The Union Education Minister expressed his consent for the establishment of a Kendriya Vidyalaya in Gairsain.
During the meeting, Dr Rawat also held detailed discussions with the Union Education Minister regarding the state’s education system and apprised him of future plans. He shared information on the state curriculum prepared by SCERT under the provisions of the National Education Policy–2020, efforts being made to improve the Gross Enrolment Ratio (GER) and PGI rankings, progress of PM SHRI schools, and the functioning of the Vidya Samiksha Kendra. In addition, important issues related to the appointment of a permanent Director at NIT Srinagar and ongoing construction works were also discussed.
Dr Rawat invited the Union Education Minister to attend the upcoming convocation ceremony of Hemwati Nandan Bahuguna Garhwal (Central) University, which was graciously accepted.
Cabinet Minister Dr. Dhan Singh Rawat also met the newly appointed National Executive Working President of the Bharatiya Janata Party, Nitin Nabin, in Delhi. During the meeting, Dr Rawat discussed various issues related to the state and also shared information regarding party preparations and election management for the upcoming West Bengal Assembly elections.
