Dehradun, 9 Feb: The Uttarakhand BJP today demanded an immediate cancellation of land allotted by a previous Congress government to a Muslim educational institution headed by Mahmood Asad Madani who is currently associated with a religious trust and owes allegiance to Deoband Dar-ul Uloom. Addressing a press conference at BJP State Headquarters here today, BJP MLA from Dharampur and the state spokesman, Vinod Chamoli alleged that the allotment poses a serious threat to the security of the Indian Military Academy (IMA) and is part of a larger conspiracy to establish a Muslim University in the region. Chamoli described the allotment of the disputed land at Dhaulasi by a previous Congress Government as a calculated move by vested interests and warned that protecting the sanctity of Devbhoomi requires freeing the state from Congress influence.

Chamoli asserted that the recent media reports have once again exposed what he termed a dangerous conspiracy by the Congress and its governments. He stated that in 2004, during the tenure of the ND Tiwari government, around 100 bighas of land at Sahaspur Dhaulasi were leased to Mohammad Madani for educational purposes. Efforts were subsequently made to change the land use and following objections, the matter reached the High Court. After the case was dismissed, attempts were allegedly made by land mafia to illegally appropriate the land through power of attorney arrangements. He said that the Mussoorie Dehradun Development Authority (MDDA) has now acted and imposed a ban on the sale and purchase of the land.

Questioning the intent of the then and subsequent Congress governments, Chamoli asked whether the land allotted for an educational institution during the Tiwari government was intended for setting up a Muslim University. He alleged that during the 2022 Assembly elections, the issue of establishing a Muslim University in Sahaspur (Dehradun) had surfaced under the watch of then Chief Minister Harish Rawat. He said that strong opposition by the BJP and the rejection of Congress by the public in the elections prevented that plan from materialising. With the alleged conspiracy now coming to light, it has emerged that land mafia were attempting to misuse the land, he claimed.

Chamoli appreciated the prompt action shown by the administration in the matter and appealed to the government to immediately take back possession of the land. He said the entire area is extremely sensitive as it is located adjacent to the IMA campus. He added that any unauthorised activity there poses a serious threat to the security of IMA. The BJP leader also recalled that the Army had raised objections at the time as well, but the Congress governments ignored the concerns and did not cancel the allotment. He urged the government to take immediate cognisance of the matter and annul the land allotment now that the situation has become clear.

Chamoli further said that, this case, like several others, demonstrates the need to rid Uttarakhand of Congress influence to protect the spiritual and cultural identity of Devbhoomi. He alleged that if Congress were to remain influential in the state, Uttarakhand’s demographic balance and religious and cultural character would inevitably come under threat.
