Mussoorie, 27 Jan: Republic Day was celebrated with fervour and gaiety across the hill town with the Tricolour being unfurled and sweets distributed. The flag hoisting programmes began at various government and non-government offices, such as the Indo-Tibetan Border Police Academy, the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy for Administration, Nagar Palika Parishad early morning on Saturday. The hill town reverberated to the patriotic songs sung by schoolchildren of Sanathan Dharma Girls’ School. The portraits of Mahatma Gandhi, Dr BR Ambedkar and Jawaharlal Nehru were also garlanded as a mark of respect. The national flag was hoisted at Landour Chowk by Chief Guest Mussoorie MLA Ganesh Joshi. The pledge to abstain from using plastic carry bags and also to remove corruption was also taken by all present.
MLA Ganesh Joshi, MLA Jot Singh Gunsola, Chairman Anuj Gupta and former chairman Manmohan Singh Mall presented shawls and citations to Fireman Sattar Malik, Mussoorie Fire Department, Ramchandra, Health Department, BS Negi, President, Mussoorie Sports Association, Shobha Rana, Athlete, Sahil Sonkar, Indoor Hockey player, Arpit Kumar, ITBP, and Ayushy Dhingiya, Beauty Contest Winner. Meanwhile Sadbhavana Mussoorie felicitated Kavita Shukla for culture promotion and social service.
Also present were Mussoorie BJP Mandal President Mohan Patwal, Congress party president Satish Dondiyal, Municipal Council members Pratap Panwar, Darshan Rawat, Manisha Kharola, Aarti Agarwal, Jasoda Sharma, Executive Officer ML Shah, Virendra Bist, Kiran Rana, Shivani Bharti, Anuj Tayal, Sandeep Agarwal, Sunil Panwar, Ram Prasad Kavi and many others.
