Dehradun, 11 Mar: BJP state media in-charge Manveer Singh Chauhan today justified the ongoing action against illegal religious encroachments and madrasas in Uttarakhand, calling it necessary for preserving the state’s demography and cultural identity.
Chauhan was addressing the media at the State BJP Headquarters here today, during which he asserted that no one would be allowed to misuse religious education as a cover for illegal activities. He stated that the BJP firmly opposes any attempts to alter the state’s demography through illegal land occupatios under the guise of religion.
He added that on the directives issued by Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami the authorities have taken significant action, reclaiming over 6,000 acres of illegally occupied land and bringing it under government control. The crackdown has included the removal of more than a dozen illegal madrasas and mosques in Dehradun and other areas. Chauhan reaffirmed the BJP’s strong support for these actions and pledged continued advocacy for similar measures in the future.
Chauhan further asserted that as long as the BJP remains in power, any attempt to alter the state’s demographic and cultural fabric would be firmly resisted. He accused the Congress of prioritising its vote bank over the legal and cultural concerns of Uttarakhand by supporting the operation of illegal religious institutions.
The BJP leader also reminded that action has only been taken against the illegally operating Madrasas and other illegal encroachments. He added that all the targeted madrasas are illegal and have failed to comply with prescribed regulations, putting the future of students at risk under the pretence of religious education. He emphasised that the BJP’s stand is not politically motivated but rather aimed at cultural preservation.
He reiterated that the BJP’s priority is the harmonious development of the state and the nation, and that the party will continue to oppose any attempts to disrupt this balance.
