International Conference concludes at Graphic Era

By OUR STAFF REPORTER

Dehradun, 11 Nov: Deliberations were held on new technologies for achieving net zero carbon emission resulting in less pollution at the International Conference held at Graphic Era Deemed University, here, today. Scientists gave several important suggestions for dealing with environmental pollution.

On the last day of the International Conference held on IC Engines, Propulsion and Combustion, Scientist at Department of Science and Technology Dr Kiran Kumar Challa, as the Chief Guest said that, in the combustion process of IC engine, ammonia should be used as a fuel. It is a great alternative fuel and helps in dealing with pollution. In transportation, fuel based on methanol mitigation and hydrogen would prove to be beneficial. He said that, to achieve net zero, collaboration of people from different fields including academia, industry and policy making is required. Dr Challa highlighted activities and projects of DST.

In the technical session of the conference, former Director of Research and Innovation Centre at Defence Research and Development Organisation, Dr V Ramanujachari said that rotating detonation wave engine (RDE) comes under supersonic combustion engine with intermittent combustion. Its frequency range is 5-10 KHz. The thermodynamic efficiency of RDE is about 20% higher than the Bryton cycle and hence very attractive in propulsion system. He said that the H2- Air system developed in India can produce 5000 N of thrust for a flow rate of 5 kg/s. More tests are being planned for its application in weapon systems.

Dr Ashish Vashishtha from South East Technological University, Ireland, said that the blended fuels will prove to be a good source of energy. These fuels not only help in pollution control but are economically profitable.

As many as 50 research papers were presented at the conference today and 4 technical sessions were organised. The sessions were chaired by Principal Scientist at Indian Institute of Petroleum, Dehradun, Dr Raj Kumar Singh, General Manager of Opto Electronics, Nitesh Goel, Dr Prabhakar Bhandari from KR Mangalam University, Haryana, Dr Priyanka Tyagi from Sridev Suman University, Dehradun, and CEO of Stock Box Technologies, Dr Sushant Singh.

The International Conference was organised by Graphic Era Deemed University and Graphic Era Hill University under the aegis of The Combustion Institute – Indian Section. Organising Secretary of the conference and HOD of Graphic Era’s Department of Aerospace Engineering, Dr Sudhir Joshi proposed the vote of thanks. Vice Chancellor of Graphic Era Deemed University Dr Narpinder Singh, Vice Chancellor of Graphic Era Hill University, Dr Sanjay Jasola, scientists and researchers from across the globe along with faculty members and students were also present at the conference. Dr Punit Gupta hosted the valedictory session.
