Dehradun, 9 Jun:  Activist Anoop Nautiyal has written a detailed 35‑page letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi alleging that rampant mining activities around the Asan Conservation Reserve are posing serious threats to Uttarakhand’s only Ramsar Site and the wider Yamuna ecosystem. In his communication, Nautiyal has sought urgent intervention from the Prime Minister and his office to address the environmental concerns and ensure long‑term protection of this ecologically significant landscape.

Nautiyal has claimed that unchecked mining in the vicinity of the Asan Conservation Reserve is endangering fragile habitats and undermining the ecological balance of the Yamuna basin. Stressing the need for immediate corrective measures, Nautiyal appealed for collective action to safeguard the state’s natural heritage. “Let us join hands to preserve our pristine but threatened natural resources,” he said in his appeal.

It may be recalled that the Asan Conservation Reserve, recognised internationally as a Ramsar Site, is a critical wetland supporting diverse bird species and aquatic life. Conservationists have long warned that unregulated human activity in the area could irreversibly damage its ecological character.
