APO’s Moot Court Competition held at Law College

Dehradun, 30 July: Police Training Centre, Narendra Nagar, in collaboration with Law College Dehradun, organised the Moot Court Competition-2019 today for Assistant Prosecution Officers (Batch 2016) of Uttarakhand. Twenty-five trainee APOs, a trainer, course coordinator and director were present during the mega event. Chairperson of the State Police Complaints Authority, Justice BS Verma was present as the Chief Guest on the occasion while Chancellor of the Uttaranchal University Jitendra Joshi was present as the special guest.
The training began at 11 a.m. followed by the inauguration of the Moot Court Competition. Participating APOs were given the files and asked to plead their cases. Additional Director (Prosecution) Hari Vinod Joshi, SPO ML Sadana, SPO TS Bisht and Assistant Professor of Law College Anzum Parvez were the judges. It was a tough competition among the participants. Both the prosecution as well as defence presented their strong arguments related to the case.
In a tough contest, adjudicators declared Monica Adhikari, Vikrant Rathore and Ashish Gupta of team P1 as the winners, while Vasudev, Seema Rani and Govind of team P3 were the runners up. Ashish Gupta was declared the Best Mooter.
In his address, BS Verma outlined the importance of prosecution officers in criminal cases. He cautioned the budding officers to be meticulous in handling the witnesses as any lapse on their part could prove advantageous to the defence. He advised the prosecutors to avoid friendship in the court, render timely information to the witnesses and also make them aware of the stringent laws concerning hostile witnesses. He exhorted them to be as thoroughly professional as private lawyers in the discharge of their duties.
Speaking at the event, Dean of Law College Dr Rajesh Bahuguna observed that organising the moot court event at the college was, both, a matter of pride as well as a pleasant experience. He thanked Police Training College for selecting Law College Dehradun as its competition venue.
Those present on the occasion were Vice Chancellor Prof NK Joshi, Hari Vinod Joshi, GC Pancholi, TS Rana, ML Sadana, TS Bisht, Mamta Mandoli, Urvashi Chauhan, Dr Poonam Rawat, Anjum Parvez, Kumar Ashutosh, Amit Kumar, Dr Bhuvaneswari, participants and other faculty members.
