DEHRADUN, 6 Feb: ‘Light is the symbol of truth, give light the darkness will disappear of itself’ – with this in mind, hundreds of earthen lamps are lit in the White House Court of The Asian School, here, every year on the occasion of “Deepotsav” – the annual custom of showering blessings on the Asianites who are looking forward to the end of school life and a new beginning.
The solemn occasion, held today, was observed by lighting of hundreds of earthen lamps and presenting stoles, tying of ‘Kalavas’ and applying of ‘Tilak’ on the foreheads of 241 students, who will appear for the CBSE class XII Exams in March 2019.
The auspicious ceremony commenced with lighting of the ceremonial lamp by Chief Guest Geeta Das. As per tradition, the blessing ceremony saw the recounting of experiences during their stay at The Asian School by a number of outgoing students, who delivered their speeches and took everyone down memory lane. All of them shared their memorable and joyous moments, besides the pranks within the classrooms.
On the occasion, a token exchange of earthen lamps took place which was symbolic of conferring the honour, power and responsibility on the new prefect body by the old one.
Principal AK Das advised the students to understand the importance of hard work and thorough preparation. He also said that they should not postpone their work and must burn the midnight oil in order to prepare for the Board Exam. He blessed the children and wished them luck.
Anant VD Thapliyal, Vice Principal, wished the students luck and advised them to be disciplined. He asked them to be selfless and caring and be a generation remembered for being not only modern but also disciplined. It was their hard work that would hold them in good stead throughout their lives and nothing should deter them from achieving their goals.
Director Gagan Jyot Juneja, Head, Middle School, Mukesh Nangia, Kalpana Grover, Headmistress, and the entire teaching staff attended the function.
The programme was jointly conducted by Ananya Sanjeev Dulta and Aryan Vijay Dutt Thapliyal.
