Dehradun, 19 Feb: The ‘Uttarakhand Bhasha Sansthan’ has announced the literary awards for the year 2023. This time, litterateur Dr Laxman Singh Bisht, more popularly known by the name Batrohi, has been chosen for the Sumitranandan Pant Sahitya Gaurav Samman for long-term literary work. At the same time, Dr Sushil Upadhyay, has been selected for the ‘Shailesh Matiyani Award for Fiction. In addition, writer Prem Sahil has been selected for long-term literary service to Punjabi literature and will receive the ‘Purna Singh Award’.
According to the details released by the Uttarakhand Bhasha Sansthan, writers from the state have been selected for the Sahitya Gaurav Samman in 10 different categories. All these authors will be felicitated by Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami and Languages Minister Subodh Uniyal at a function to be held in Dehradun on 21 February.
On this occasion, the institute’s magazine, ‘Kedar Manas’, will also be released, which is edited by former Vice Chancellor Prof Sudha Pandey.
According to IAS officer and Director of Uttarakhand Bhasha Sansthan, Swati S Bhadauria, well-known author Professor Laxman Singh Bisht Batrohi has been selected for the Long Term Excellent Literary Creation Award. In this category, the writers don’t have to apply for the award but they are selected on the recommendations of other writers and scholars.
Whereas in other categories, writers have to apply themselves. This year, the Gumani Pant Award for long-term literary creation in Kumaoni folk literature will be given to Devkinandan Bhatt. The Bhajan Singh Award for long term literary service in Garhwali folk literature will be given to Girish Sundriyal. It has been decided to give the Govind Chatak Award to Dr Suresh Mamgai for his long-term literary service in dialects and sub-dialects other than Kumaoni and Garhwali.
The Shailesh Matiyani Award will be given to Dr Sushil Upadhyay, a former journalist and currently Associate Professor in Hindi literature for his novel ‘Suno Sabrina’ in the original fiction category. This novel is the story of an Uzbekistani girl’s struggle. Till now, 18 books of Dr Sushil Upadhyay have been published.
It has been decided to give the Mahadevi Verma Award to Professor Shailesh for writing epic poetry. Dr Lalit Mohan Pant has been selected for the Dr Pitambar Dutt Barthwal Award in the category of other prose genre. Ganesh Khugshal has been selected for the Pandit Bhairav Dutt Dhulia Award for literary magazine writing. He writes regularly on literary topics.
Apart from these, the Professor Unwan Chishti Award will be given to famous poet Nadeem Barani for his long-term literary writing in Urdu. Writer Prem Sahil has been selected for long-term literary service to Punjabi literature. He will be given the Teacher Purna Singh Award. Awarded writers in all these categories will be presented a certificate, memento and a fixed amount of cash as honorarium. This year, no award could be announced in the young writers’ category due to lack of sufficient number of applications under this category.
