Bio-pic of Bobby Cash to be Indo-Aussie co-production

DEHRADUN, 6 Jan: A biopic of India’s first country Singer Bobby Cash, received the blessings of The Governor of Uttarakhand, Lt-General Gurmit Singh (Retd) as the first coproduction between Australia and Uttarakhand.The film provisionally titled ‘One in A Billion’ will be an Indo-Australian coproduction following the film coproduction treaty that was announced earlier in November.

To be directed by Australian Director Anupam Sharma, the film will be produced by Dehradun’s well known film personality and producer Satish Sharma, with Bobby Cash as Executive Producer.

The Governor said – “The people of Uttarakhand are blessed as they live in the midst of mesmerizing natural beauty and resources. They must now learn to proactively promote the very many picturesque locations and highlight its hospitality. Time is now ripe to project the state in the international forums. This film based on our ‘son of the soil’ Bobby Cash is bound to do wonders to promote Uttarakhand globally. And this is bound to have a positive impact in the state’s economic development”.

Bobby Cash is India’s most well known export . A country singer which is rare in India, Bobby was discovered by the world after his hit debut at Tamworth Country Music Festival in Australia. Born in Dehradun, Bobby also has had a number of programs including a documentary in Australia on his international achievements and iconic status as a Country Singer from India.

Speaking at the announcement Bobby Cash said, “I am honored to be the subject of this upcoming biopic and doubly honored that the initiative was blessed in Dehradun at Raj Bhavan by the Governor of Uttarakhand, Lt-General Gurmit Singh (Retd). What makes this even more special is that I have on board alongside me Satish as Producer and Anupam as Director, both with roots in Uttarakhand and both close to my heart”.

The film will be produced by Uttarakhand’s pioneering media personality Satish Sharma. Satish is the Publisher of one of the leading daily newspapers in Uttarakhand – Garhwal Post. Satish also launched Enchanting Himalaya and pioneered line production in Uttarakhand.

“This joining of hands has turned out to be a miracle of collaboration. I am so excited that we will be canning Bobby’s life story which is so very inspiring. More than a wonderful narrative the film for me is like a social responsibility that I must fulfil with panache”, said Satish Sharma.

Helming the chair of Director will be Australia’s most high profile Indian born film maker Anupam Sharma. Anupam who is originally from Dehradun has directed and produced a number of high profile Australian Indian productions including Un-Indian starring Brett Lee and heading up production for Dil Chahta Hai, Heyy Babbyy, and many others in Australia. Anupam said – “Bobby Cash’s story is such an international story and  perfect to narrate for big screen as a coproduction as it organically travels. I am so honoured that Satish and Bobby have chosen me to direct this important Indian story, this inspiring musical tale, and this pioneering journey of an Indian musical genius in Australia.”

Doon’s Anupam Sharma shines in Australia’s film world

DEHRADUN, 6 Jan: Filmmaker Anupam Sharma is from the 1986 batch of St Joseph’s Academy, Dehradun. He left Doon after his 12th and did further studies at Sydney which includes his Masters Thesis on Indian cinema. His father Purushottam Das Sharma retired as Chief Engineer, UP Irrigation in 1999.
Anupam Sharma is acknowledged by the Australian Government as the leading pioneer who marketed Australia visible through films for the past 30 years in India and Hollywood, etc. His debut film as Director ‘Un-Indian’ was the first film ever announced by the then Australian Prime Minister Tony Abott in Mumbai at The Taj! The film was released in 2015 world over and is available on Disney Hotstar!
Also, Anupam was made Australia Day Ambassador 12 years in a row for his work in films between Australia and India!
Anupam’s second film ‘Brand Bollywood’ was released recently in Australia on 2nd November 2023. This film will also be released on OTT shortly.
