Dehradun, 1 Jun: In a significant organisational reshuffle, the Bharatiya Janata Party leadership has entrusted Uttarakhand BJP’s General Secretary (Organisation) Ajaey Kumar with a major new responsibility by appointing him as the party’s Organisation General Secretary in Rajasthan. The appointment has been made with immediate effect and is being viewed as an important organisational decision in the context of the party’s future electoral strategy and expansion plans. Sources in the party confirmed that the successor to Ajaey Kumar is yet to be announced but added that the announcement would soon be made, particularly in view of the forthcoming state assembly elections in Uttarakhand.

The appointment order was issued today by BJP National General Secretary Arun Singh. Political observers and party insiders consider the move a significant development within the BJP’s organisational structure, particularly given Rajasthan’s importance in the national political landscape.

It may be recalled that Ajaey Kumar has been associated with the organisational framework of both the BJP and the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) for several years. During his tenure in Uttarakhand, he played a key role in strengthening the party organisation at the booth level, coordinating between workers and leadership, and implementing election strategies on the ground. He was actively involved in several major organisational campaigns and electoral preparations undertaken by the party in the state.

Ajaey Kumar was appointed BJP Uttarakhand Organisation General Secretary in September 2019, succeeding Sanjay Kumar who had a rather controversial tenure. With his transfer to Rajasthan in June 2026, he completes nearly six years and eight months in the post, making him one of the longest-serving Sangh-backed organisational heads in the Uttarakhand BJP.

During his tenure, he worked alongside four successive state BJP presidents, namely Banshidhar Bhagat, Madan Kaushik and Mahendra Bhatt, who is serving his second term. He also witnessed and coordinated organisational activities during the tenures of three BJP Chief Ministers, namely Trivendra Singh Rawat, Tirath Singh Rawat and now Pushkar Singh Dhami.

Party insiders claim that the Ajaey Kumar’s transfer out of Uttarakhand was anticipated over the past several months as he had already completed two terms here as BJP General Secretary (Organisation) and has become the longest serving party leader in Uttarakhand on this very significant post. The party leaders also dismissed the claims that Ajaey Kumar’s transfer has something to do with coming assembly elections or with any particular incident. They also claim that Kumar’s transfer to Rajasthan is a reward for his good work in Uttarakhand as Rajasthan is a much larger state that sends 25 MPs to the Lok Sabha as compared to just 5 in case of Uttarakhand.

It may be pointed out here that, within the BJP’s organisational hierarchy, the post of Organisation General Secretary is regarded as one of the most influential positions after the state president. The incumbent serves as the principal link between the BJP and the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and plays a crucial role in organisational appointments, cadre management, ideological coordination and election strategy.

Party leaders view the decision to assign Rajasthan to Ajaey Kumar a reflection of the confidence reposed in his organisational abilities and experience. Rajasthan is considered politically significant for the BJP, and the appointment of an experienced organisational strategist is being seen as part of the party’s broader preparations for future electoral challenges in the state.

The development has generated considerable discussion among BJP leaders and workers in Uttarakhand. Several party functionaries have described the appointment as recognition of Ajaey Kumar’s dedication, organisational skills and sustained efforts to strengthen the party structure in the state. Workers have noted that he consistently remained engaged at the grassroots level and played an important role in expanding and consolidating the organisation.

In recent months, the BJP has undertaken several important organisational appointments across different states as part of its strategy to further strengthen the party’s structure and outreach. Ajaey Kumar’s appointment in Rajasthan is being viewed as another significant step in that direction.

The BJP is yet to announce his successor as Organisation General Secretary in Uttarakhand but an early appointment is expected, claim the sources.
