Dehradun, 16 Jun: Senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader Ravindra Jugran has expressed deep sorrow over the recent helicopter crash near the Kedarnath pilgrimage route, calling the incident extremely unfortunate. Emphasising the paramount importance of ensuring the safety of passengers, pilots, and all personnel, he suggested that helicopter services should be temporarily suspended during the monsoon season.
Jugran stated that he would formally request the department minister and the Chief Minister to take appropriate action in this regard. He emphasised that the suspension period could serve as a crucial opportunity for the Uttarakhand government to thoroughly examine and rectify the shortcomings in the current heli-service system.
He added that before resuming helicopter operations, a detailed investigation must be carried out to identify and address all possible lapses. This is essential to restore public confidence and ensure complete safety for all stakeholders involved in the Kedarnath pilgrimage.
He added that understanding the rapidly changing weather patterns in the higher Himalayas is an extremely challenging task. Operating helicopter services in such regions becomes even more difficult during the monsoon season.
Jugran further stated that there are already several shortcomings in the operation of heli-services in Kedarnath, which need immediate and serious attention.
