Dehradun, 20 May: The BJP has welcomed the announcement by Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami to restart the police verification drive for illegal immigrants after the elections are over.
State President and Rajya Sabha Member Mahendra Bhatt noted that re-verification drive is a necessary step to control the conspiracies of demographic change and crime. Also, on the announcement of implementation of UCC this year, he said that the day is not far when 1.25 crore people will move forward with a uniform law.
Bhatt said that, hopefully, soon after the Lok Sabha elections, Uttarakhand Police will restart the verification drive across the state to check illegal immigration and control conspiracies and efforts to change the demography of the state. Bhatt said that verification campaign will ensure peace, security and prosperity of the state. He observed that, since the formation of the state, people from neighbouring states have moved here on a large scale in view of the possibilities of development. But among these there are also a large number of people who are residing in Uttarakhand with wrong intentions and illegally. A large number of such people have been found involved in illegal conversions and other serious crimes.
He clarified that it is the responsibility of all to preserve the limited resources and special cultural and religious identity of the state. Those who pollute the climate of Uttarakhand by carrying out any kind of illegal encroachment should not be spared. Therefore, the party organisation supports efforts for a massive verification campaign to identify such people.
He praised the efforts of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami towards maintaining the cultural and religious identity and demographic balance of the state. He said that, even in the past, the government had launched a big campaign to remove encroachments on forests and government land, in which thousands of acres of land was freed from encroachment by demolishing illegal religious encroachments.
He also welcomed the announcement of implementing the UCC during the current year itself and said that the day is not far when 1.25 crore people of the state will have a uniform civil law.
