BJP wins 9 Zila Panchayat Chiefs posts



DEHRADUN, 7 Nov: The results of the elections to the posts of Presidents and Vice Presidents of the Zila Panchayats were declared today. The BJP has won nine out of the twelve Presidents’ posts. This continues its winning streak following the assembly and municipal elections. Voting for eight Zila Panchayat Chiefs took place today. Of the eight seats up for grabs, the BJP won five. Four of its supported candidates had already won unopposed, earlier. The Congress had supported candidates in only five zila panchayats. It had supported an independent in Uttarkashi, where it scored a win. Also, the Chamoli and Almora seats went to the Congress. The Congress winners are Uma Singh (Almora), Deepak Bijlawan war being waged by Pakistan over the last few decades. (Uttarkashi), Rajni Bhandari (Chamoli). The BJP’s winners are Basanti Devi (Bageshwar), Sona Devi (Tehri), Madhu Chauhan (Dehradun), Shanti Devi (Pauri) and Amar Dei (Rudraprayag). Those elected unopposed, all from BJP, were Renu Gangwar (US Nagar), Jyoti Rai (Champawat), Bela Tolia (Nainital) and Deepika (Pithoragarh). The Vice Presidents elected are Komal Singh (Pithoragarh), Kanta Devi (Almora), Navin Parihar (Bageshwar), Kavita Parmar (Uttarkashi), Bhola Singh (Tehri), Rachna Devi (Pauri) and Sumant (Rudraprayag). Those who won unopposed were Trinath Vishwas (Udham Singh Nagar), Lalit Mohan Singh Kunwar (Champawat), Anand Singh (Nainital), Laxman Singh (Chamoli) and Shyam Singh Pundeer (Dehradun).
