Blocked roads should be opened as soon as possible: Secy VK Suman

Dehradun, 7 Jul: In view of the forecast of heavy to very heavy rains in most parts of Uttarakhand on Sunday by the Meteorological Department, Secretary, Disaster Management and Rehabilitation, Vinod Kumar Suman reviewed the situation in the districts from the State Emergency Operations Centre (Control Room) located at IT Park of the Uttarakhand State Disaster Management Authority.

He instructed the Disaster Management Officers of all the districts to remain alert and keep an eye on the situation.

Vinod Kumar Suman through video conferencing obtained information from the Disaster Management Officers of all the districts about the current situation and the rain in the districts.

He gave instructions regarding National Highways, State Highways as well as rural roads that maybe closed due to landslides, to ensure they are opened as soon as possible so that the general public does not face any problems.

He also obtained information about traffic operations in the State and National Highway. He said that, if the roads are closed, signage should be installed and people informed about it. Also, information about opening of roads should be reach the general public through various mediums. He also gave necessary steps to open the rural roads as soon as possible.

He also took information from the DMMO about the water level of the rivers and asked that information be provided to the State Emergency Operation Centre about any emergency. He also asked to send people to safe places when the water level of the rivers rises and to make people aware about staying away from rivers and drains.

Present on the occasion ere Joint Chief Executive Officer of USDMA, Mohd Obaidullah Ansari, Duty Officer Alok Kumar Singh, SEOC Day Incharge Rohit Kumar, etc. were present.

Secretary Suman said that information has been received about misleading and fake posts being posted on social media regarding various disasters. Old videos and photos are being circulated in a wrong way by claiming them to be current. He told all the DMMOs that such misleading social media posts should be immediately refuted so that there is no atmosphere of fear and panic among the general public.

He ordered a special watch on dry rivers across the state. Due to heavy rains, danger can also arise in dry rivers.  He has also appealed to the people not to go into dry rivers and not to park vehicles there, etc.

He ordered there should be no delay in distributing relief amount to the disaster affected people.

Suman directed all the District Disaster Management Officers to not rely on just one tele-network and also take services of others. He said that to deal with any disaster effectively, it is necessary that the exchange of information is done on time.
