Dehradun, 6 Oct: Minister of Women Empowerment and Child Development Rekha Arya chaired a review meeting with departmental officials in the Assembly auditorium here today. During the meeting, she directed preparation of a comprehensive working plan for the empowerment of elderly women through the utilisation of funds collected from the Rs 1 cess. She emphasised that the amount being collected should be channelled towards meeting the basic needs of elderly women across the state.

The Women Welfare Minister also instructed the officials of the Women Empowerment Department and representatives of Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) working with elderly women to jointly prepare a detailed outline of the proposed scheme. She stated that the initiative aims to provide economic, social, and emotional support to the elderly and destitute women of Uttarakhand.

Arya further shared that to make the elderly women self-reliant, it has been decided to organise small-scale women’s conventions in each district, where direct interactions would be held with elderly women. Such interactions, she asserted, would help the government understand their difficulties more closely and facilitate concrete policy measures to address them.

Describing the proposed scheme as an innovative and humane step, Arya claimed that the government is committed to standing up for the helpless elderly women of the state as a family member. She directed the officials to expedite the formulation and implementation of the plan to ensure that the scheme takes shape at the earliest.

Among those present at the meeting were Secretary Chandresh Kumar Yadav, Vikram Singh, Mohit Chaudhary, Neetu Phulera, and other departmental officers along with representatives of various NGOs.
