Dehradun, 27 Feb: Chairman of the single-member dedicated commission, BS Verma, called on Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami at CM’s Official residence here today and submitted his report in respect of the OBCs. Verma is the chairman of the single-member dedicated commission, constituted to conduct a contemporary and empirical investigation of the nature of backwardness of Other Backward Classes at all levels in local bodies within the state and its implications.
Verma submitted his third report in respect of the remaining 12 districts for providing reservation/representation to Other Backward Classes for the purpose of general elections of rural local bodies.
It may be recalled that earlier, the first report of Haridwar district was submitted by the commission on 14 August 2022. In order to provide adequate representation to Other Backward Classes in 3-tier Panchayats of Haridwar district (First Report) and the remaining 12 districts (Third Report), recommendations have been given as per the Census of 2011, viz., 13 seats for District Panchayat Presidents, 358 seats for District Panchayat Territorial Constituencies (Wards), 89 seats for Area Panchayat Pramukhs, 2974 seats for Area Panchayat Territorial Constituencies (Wards), 7499 seats for Gram Panchayat Pradhans, and 55589 seats for Gram Panchayat Territorial Constituencies (Wards). On this occasion, Cabinet Minister Satpal Maharaj, Ganesh Joshi, Rajya Sabha MP Naresh Bansal, MLA Khajan Das, Savita Kapoor, Brijbhushan Gairola, Secretary Panchayati Raj Chandresh Yadav, Director Panchayati Raj Nidhi Yadav, Additional Secretary Panchayati Raj Panna Lal Shukla, Member Secretary/Joint Secretary DS Rana, Deputy Director/In-charge Member Secretary Manoj Kumar Tiwari, and Subodh Bijalwan from the Dedicated Commission were present.
