Dehradun, 15 May: The Uttarakhand State Commission for Protection of Child Rights has taken serious cognisance of the media reports and information regarding alleged operation of a sex racket within the premises of a children’s play school in Dehradun. Commission Chairperson Dr Geeta Khanna today described the incident as not only shameful and condemnable but also a grave threat to children’s safety, to the integrity of the education system and to the moral fabric of society. She asserted that schools, being sacred and sensitive spaces, cannot under any circumstances be misused for such unlawful activities. In addition, the Uttarakhand State Women’s Commission has also taken suo motu cognisance of this case.
The Uttarakhand State Commission for Protection of Child Rights has directed the DM of Dehradun to ensure a fair, thorough and time-bound investigation and to initiate strict legal action against those found guilty. It has also instructed that, if any administrative or institutional negligence is detected, necessary proceedings must be taken against the responsible officials and management.
In addition, specific reports have been sought on several points, including measures under the New Education Policy for child safety and monitoring of private institutions, compliance with directives issued after the dissolution of the Madrasa Board, guidelines of the Minority Education Authority, and inspection of schools and institutions operating from rented premises. The Commission emphasised that misuse of school premises for criminal activities raises concerns about possible future frauds or risks to children’s safety, and therefore requires stringent checks.
Besides this, Dr Khanna also extended heartfelt congratulations to all the students who have succeeded in the CBSE examinations, acknowledging their hard work, the guidance of teachers and the support of parents. She wished them a bright future and encouraged them to continue contributing positively to society and nation-building.
In addition, the Uttarakhand State Women’s Commission has also taken suo motu cognisance of this case allegedly involving flesh trade within the premises of a school in Dehradun. Commission Chairperson Kusum Kandwal has directed the DM to conduct a thorough investigation into the matter. Kandwal stated that such activities are inexcusable within a “temple of learning” and that the strictest action will be taken against the culprits. She further instructed the District Magistrate to expose the ringleaders of the racket. The Commission has also issued orders to investigate suspected hubs of liquor and narcotics located in the vicinity of educational institutions.
